Exports from Atlantico and Barranquilla increased by 5.4%

In April this year, the department of Atlántico’s exports amounted to USD 168 million, representing an increase of 5.4% compared to the same period of the previous year, according to the National Administrative Service of Statistics (Dane).

Barranquilla, as the main engine of the economy of the Atlántico department, shows a favorable development in its sales abroad.

Juan Manuel Alvarado, city manager, explains that with regard to the transportation of cargo from customs in seaports, while in the national accumulated it fell by 10.8%, in Barranquilla there was a positive growth of 3.2%.

“The reactivation of our economy and the good time of the local industry continue. This goes hand in hand with last year when we had a record increase in exports of almost 46%, with the industry closing closing at 13.8%,” added Alvarado.

Exports are considered recorded when customs have closed the export declaration, and for the consolidation of the statistics the date of the declaration is taken into account and not the date of its dispatch, except for oil exports and derivatives, which are recorded by date of shipment.

According to Dane, 35% of the Atlantic Department’s exports go to the United States, followed by Brazil and China with 7.4% and 5.3% respectively.

According to the tariff breakdowns exported from the Atlantic in 2022, sales of aluminum doors, windows and their frames, frames and thresholds stand out abroad, totaling $282 million, representing 12% of the interest.

At the end of 2022, the port area of ​​Barranquilla mobilized 4.1% of the total tons of exports, equivalent to 3.92 million tons.
