Dane’s director explained that the item with the largest monthly variation was transportation at 1.19%. This report highlights that food and non-alcoholic beverages were the only spending division with a negative variation of 0.85%.
“We see a realignment that has already taken place in recent months, which explains the negative variation in food prices,” Urdinola stressed.
In terms of cities, Sincelejo was the city with the highest monthly inflation rate at 0.94% and the one with the lowest indicator was Ibagué at -0.10%. On the Barranquilla side, monthly inflation for May reached 0.56%, above the national average.
On these results, the President of Colombia, Gustavus Petro, celebrated the decline and stated that the cost of living in the country is under control.
“The price variation in the month of May was 0.43. Overall inflation in Colombia is under control. The annual rate will continue to fall in favor of the income of the Colombian people,” he said via his Twitter account.
