Free drug program. Prime Minister: We have adopted an amendment that is very beneficial for all Poles

At the Council of Ministers, we adopted a change that is very beneficial for all Poles, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said.

We are expanding the program of free medicines. The new solution will be used by people over 65 and children and young people up to the age of 18. Since 2016, people over the age of 75 have been using prescription drugs free of charge. Now the program will reach a larger number of Polish women and men – about 16 million people in total. This is another part of the government’s social policy. Extension of the program would not be possible without changes in public finances, which allocate more money to the state budget, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said at Monday’s press conference.

– It started with fixing this leaky budget. This has enabled us to solve many problems. We have been able to develop programs in the field of health care – programs that we implemented rather timidly at the beginning and then expanded further and further – the head of government emphasized.

Expansion of the free drug program

On Monday The Council of Ministers approved the projectexpanding access to free medicines. A new group that will benefit from the program are: the over-65s; children and young people up to the age of 18. This means that 11.5 million people will be entitled to free medicines. This also applies to medical devices and foodstuffs intended for special nutrition.

– It is clear that we care for the youngest generation, our future, but we also care for those who have worked for our present: our mothers, fathers, grandparents and grandmothers. This is the concern of everyday life, which consists of something very, very specific – so that an elderly person does not wonder if he can afford to buy a prescription, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said.
