Naimski: The government and no one else is responsible for Poland’s energy security

The government and no one else is responsible for energy security, Piotr Naimski reminded, talking about the principles that should guide Poland’s energy policy.

The former government plenipotentiary for strategic energy infrastructure took part in the debate of the National Security Bureau entitled “Energy security of Poland in the context of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. BBN Strategic Debates”.

Energy policy – Four principles

Naimski listed four principles that, in his view, should guide Polish energy policy.

1. In Poland, the government and no one else is responsible for energy security.

2. The basis of the energy strategy should be the assumption that must be produced in Poland enough energy to meet all the needs of citizens, industry and the economy.

3. It is necessary diversification of energy sources – at the level of raw materials and technology. The technological monoculture is a threat.

4. We must strive optimal integration and distributed balanceenergy resources on the island with the national electricity system.

Naimski: The EU wants to take this responsibility away from governments

Speaking on the first point, Naimski stressed that there are conflicting ambitions in this area within the European Union.

– In the European Union, no one is responsible for the energy security of Poland and Poland. This is the case in all EU countries – governments are responsible for the energy security of their countries. This is all the more important as governments must have the tools to ensure this security and enforce the necessary measures – he stressed.

– This is currently in constant controversy with efforts at EU level coming from some European capitals who want to use EU mechanisms to water down this responsibility, to take it away from Member State governments. And here there is a dispute, often a confrontation, Naimski recalled.
