The road transport sector in Poland is becoming increasingly difficult. Vehicle inspection stations are nearing completion and threatening mass bankruptcy, warns the director of OZPTD.
The financial situation of the industry is very bad and getting worse every year. – It is becoming increasingly difficult to run this business in Poland. Today it is rather a fight for survival, you can forget about profit – says Andrzej Bogdanowicz, general director of the Polish Association of Road Transport Employers, when asked by “Dziennik Gazeta Prawna” about the financial situation of the industry. “Car inspection stations are nearing completion, they are threatened with mass bankruptcies,” he admits.

Bogdanowicz explains in an interview that the reason for the deteriorating situation is the ever-increasing costs.
– I am thinking about energy, wages. SKP is equipped with complex devices that require stable operating conditions. And that means proper cooling of the installations in the summer or additional heating in the winter to maintain the correct reading of the parameters. In addition, all devices run on electricity, here the bills of the station have increased several times. Inflation also contributes to their rise. Taxes, local levies, leasing and credit fees, rents, for example for real estate and, finally, employee salaries are rising. Turnover has now been unchanged for 19 years. The rate for a technical inspection for 19 years is PLN 98 gross. You can even say that it has fallen during this time by increasing VAT from 22 percent. up to 23 percent – says the interlocutor of “DGP”.
When asked about the prospects for salvaging the situation, he says that the compensation should be indexed in the first place and made more realistic.
“Since 19 years, the cost of the minimum wage has increased fivefold. In total, we can talk about a cost increase of 72 percent only due to inflation. This means that the fee for technical research should be PLN 170 only due to inflation. In addition, access to the profession. Today, the pass rate on the exam is 5 percent, which is very low, since about 75 percent of the people who take it have received automotive engineering training” – indicates the entrepreneur.
