Agro-food trade balance of Mexico registered a $5,311 million surplus in the first half of 2023, driven by a historic export that hasn’t been seen in just over three decades, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (Sader) said this Sunday.
This number meant an annual increase of 8.19% compared to the same period in 2022, a positive difference of $402 million.
La Sader explained that the export of agri-food products amounted to 27.511 million dollarsan increase of 5.38% compared to the period January-June 2022, which is the highest figure in the last 31 years.
In its turn, imports amounted to $22.2 billion in the first six months of the year, with the Mexican agro-food balance in the first half of the year maintaining a surplus for the ninth year in a row.
Concerning agricultural and fish balance Between January and June 2023, Sader reported a positive balance of $1,316 million, i.e. annual growth 2.32%thanks to exports, which for the same period amounted to 12.325 million dollars.
For its part, the agro-industrial trade balance showed surplus of $3.995 million, an increase of 10.28% compared to the first half of 2022.
In this category, exports of agro-industrial products registered $15,186 million6.3% higher than in 2022.
The Mexican Ministry of Agriculture stressed that vegetables (21%), drinks (22%) and fruits (19%) They were the main export groups, accounting for 62% of products sold abroad.
The most dynamic sector in the first six months of the year was cereal or dairy productswith a positive annual variation of 20.8.
