The German government has planned annual support for Ukraine amounting to 5 billion euros. The aid will be paid until 2027.
The decision of the government of Chancellor Olaf Scholz was announced by German Finance Minister Christian Lindner. Now it must be approved by the Bundestag.
Visit to Kyiv
The memorandum on cooperation between Ukraine and Germany, which will expand the possibilities of helping the Ukrainian budget in the future, was signed by the finance ministers of both countries – Serhiy Marchenko and Christian Lindner during the visit of the German politician to the capital from Ukraine.
According to this document, the German side will provide Ukraine with advisory support in several areas. In particular, assistance will be provided in the areas of customs policy, supervision of financial markets, public investment management and privatization of state-owned enterprises.
– I would like to thank the German Finance Minister, Christian Lindner, a true friend of Ukraine, who helped us a lot in difficult times and is helping us now. (…) I would like to thank him for his personal decisions and contributions to Ukraine’s budget and military aid. Today we signed a memorandum allowing further expansion of aid to Ukraine, said the head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Finance, Serhiy Marchenko.
Germany’s finance minister, in turn, stressed that his country will support Ukraine “as much as necessary”. He noted that the Federal Republic of Germany has already developed a support program for Ukraine until 2027, which provides annual multifaceted support, including military, amounting to 5 billion euros.
The West supports Ukraine
Germany’s finance minister said his country had provided a total of €22 billion in aid to Ukraine during the war. It is worth noting that €12 billion of this amount was allocated to military aid.
In addition, on Monday, August 14, the US announced that it had provided Ukraine with a new military aid package. The total amount will be $200 million. As noted in the Pentagon, the new support package will include additional ammunition for the Patriot and HIMARS systems, 155mm and 105mm artillery shells, 120mm tank ammunition, TOW missiles and other weapons and equipment.
