An announcement about the list of reimbursed and free medicines for people under 18 and over 65 was published in the Official Journal of the Minister of Health.
The announcement has been effective since September 1 this year. The amendment to the Publicly Funded Health Care Act, which introduces additional rights to free medicines for those under 18 and over 65, was announced Tuesday in the Journal of Laws.
“The announcement of the Minister of Health of August 30, 2023 on the list of reimbursed medicines, foodstuffs for special nutritional purposes and medical devices from September 1, 2023 takes into account the legal status resulting from the entry into force of the law and contains lists of medicines that may be provided free of charge to groups of patients from 1 September 2023.” – we read in the message. However, from the date of entry into force of the law until the end of August, free medicines, as indicated in the announcement of the Minister of Health of June 20, 2023, may also be prescribed free of charge to beneficiaries over the age of 65 .
Free medicines for children and seniors
“If there is a deterioration or loss of health, the cost of treatment is high. The Polish state supports the family in this process. It is a matter of health security at a basic level,” President Andrzej Duda wrote in an article. on the social network X. The head of state signed a law providing for full funding of medicines for children and senior citizens. Until now, free medicines were available to people turning 75.
The cost of the program will be PLN 2.4 billion. Free medicines will be able to be prescribed by general practitioners and qualified primary care nurses. Those with a special mark on the prescription are free – S for seniors and DZ for children.
