Anna Moscow ruled that the EU climate package works in China’s favor. She also announced further steps regarding the procedure for importing waste from Germany to Poland.
In April, the European Parliament adopted important directives and regulations from the Fit for 55 package. Their stated goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55%. by 2030 (compared to 1990) and achieving climate neutrality by 2050. However, while the European Union is fighting for climate neutrality, coal mining in China remains at a high level. In April 2023, it increased by more than 4%. on a yearly basis.
– The whole Fit for 55 package is a trap and German politicians have noted in recent days that it is a Chinese trap, due to the fact that the Chinese are producing electric cars very quickly – Anna Moskva, Minister of Climate and Environment, said in Program 1 of Polish Radio. She indicated that the Chinese started price competition with EU countries.
Polish complaints and German rubbish
Minister Moscow also spoke about complaints that Poland had filed against the EU package. In early August, Poland filed a complaint with the Court of Justice of the EU regarding two pieces of legislation as part of the proposed package.
– We have appealed the entire Fit for 55 package to the Court of Justice – said Anna Moscow. Our country has filed a total of four complaints against the EU climate package. The complaints concern: the ban on the registration of combustion engine vehicles after 2035, the increase in the EU target for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, the reduction in the number of free ETS available on the market and interference in forest management in EU to land.
In addition, a complaint has been lodged with the European Commission against Germany about the illegal import of waste to Poland. Anna Moscow referred to this issue.
– We will meet in Brussels on September 20. The European Commission wants to hear both sides. We are very well prepared, said the minister. She noted that the German government does not deny the practice of illegally dumping German waste in Poland, but maintains that the legal responsibility for these activities lies with the individual federal states.
