Seven people have been killed in an attack on the headquarters of humanitarian aid organization Caritas in the heavily besieged city of Mariupol in eastern Ukraine. It was reported that the building of the Catholic organization, the sister organization of Cordaid Netherlands, was bombed by a Russian tank. Kees Zevenbergen, head of the Giro555 campaign and manager of Cordaid, reported this to NU.nl on Tuesday.

Caritas writes that two of the deceased victims worked for the organization. tension† Several people were protected in the building from the bombardment of the city.

“It’s terrible news,” says Zevenbergen. “We were shocked that even emergency services and bunkers were the target of Russian attacks in Ukraine,” he said.
