Korwin-Mikke: There is no question of a coalition between Confederation and PiS or PO.

An interview with Janusz Korwin-Mikke, a politician from the Confederation, about the war in Ukraine, changing social attitudes and the upcoming elections.

RYSZARD GROMADZKI: After the recent unfriendly actions and gestures of the authorities in Kiev, is supporting Ukraine still in the interest of Poland’s raison d’être?

JANUSZ KORWIN-MIKKE: I have long argued that if Ukraine risked losing its independence, Poland should even risk a war with Russia, because Ukraine’s independence is crucial to us. However, the issue of the conflict over the areas of Taurid and Donbas, half of which are inhabited by Russians and Ukrainians, should not particularly worry us. We just have to make sure that Ukraine doesn’t lose this war, because that would make Russia too strong.

Since the start of the war, Poland has provided enormous military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine. Ukrainians residing in Poland can benefit from a range of social benefits and other forms of financial assistance. All things considered, from the point of view of our country’s interests, is this a good investment?

A very bad investment. We strengthen the potential opponent. Ukraine is clearly focused on Germany. The Berlin-Kiev axis is a fact. For Ukrainians, Germany is a natural and attractive ally. Both countries have territorial claims on Poland.
