Has the US cut off aid to Ukraine? Biden: We can’t let this happen

Under no circumstances can we allow the interruption of US aid to Ukraine, US President Joe Biden said.

In the fall, the US Congress approves the US federal government’s budget for the coming year.

If the budget is not adopted, the government will face the so-called shutdown, i.e. a procedure whereby some government agencies cease functioning until the budget is adopted by parliament (this can take place at both national and local levels). In recent decades, the so-called shutdown occurred several times, and the largest lasted 35 days (during the presidency of Donald Trump).

Biden: We can’t let this happen

On Saturday, US President Joe Biden signed a compromise and temporary funding bill to keep the government running for 45 days. November 17 is the next deadline for implementation of the final agreement. The situation poses a serious threat to the delivery of US aid to Ukraine, which is fighting Russia. According to media reports, one of the factions in the Republican Party is demanding an end to support for Kiev.

– Under no circumstances can we allow the interruption of US aid to Ukraine. I want to assure our allies that you can count on our support, we will not leave, US President Joe Biden assured on Sunday. The US leader also appealed to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy. “I expect he will keep his commitment to providing Ukraine with assistance to defend against aggression and brutality,” Biden said. The US president also called on Republican members of the House of Representatives to support a bill to provide additional aid to Ukraine, to which – according to Biden – they had previously committed themselves. According to the leader, ‘balancing on the edge’ must end.
