Orlen will build wind farms in the Baltic Sea. The company has obtained the necessary licenses

The Orlen Group received the necessary concessions from the Ministry of Infrastructure for the construction of five wind farms in the Baltic Sea. Their total capacity is expected to be approximately 5.2 GW.

The ministry’s positive decision is the next phase in Orlen’s plan to build wind farms in the Baltic Sea. The project is currently entering the preparatory phase. First of all, the following will be done: wind measurements, preliminary geotechnical tests and environmental tests, necessary in administrative and design processes. The company will use the experience gained from carrying out similar work in the Baltic Power project.

Energetic safety

As the company’s president, Daniel Obajtek, said: Orlen strengthens its leading position in the development of offshore wind farm projects in Poland.

– Thanks to the experience of the Baltic Power project, we are ready to quickly and effectively carry out work related to the preparation of the construction of five more investments at sea. We are operating according to the set schedule, ahead of other investors who started working on offshore projects before us, he said.

The farms will be the next stage in the process of strengthening Poland’s energy security and in the implementation of Orlen’s strategy, which assumes that by 2030 9 GW of power produced by the company will come from renewable energy sources.

Four of the five licenses granted to the Orlen Group are located on the Oderbank, near Kołobrzeg. The fifth location is at Słupsk Bank. This area borders the site of the Baltic Power wind farm, which the company is building together with Canadian partner Northland Power. This is currently the most advanced offshore wind farm project in Poland. The park with a capacity of 1.2 GW will start producing electricity in 2026.

According to the company’s website, offshore wind energy is one of the main directions of Orlen’s development.
