Will the Civic Coalition withdraw from the agreement that the PiS government made with the Americans on the construction of nuclear power plants? Puzzling words by Urszula Zielińska.
On Tuesday, the guest on Radio ZET was a member of parliament from the Civic Coalition, the leader of the Green Party, Urszula Zielińska. He is running in the Sejm elections from second place on the list in Warsaw.
One of the topics of discussion was the construction of a nuclear power plant in Poland.
At the end of September, Polish nuclear power plants signed a project agreement with the consortium of Westinghouse and Bechtel for the construction of the first Polish nuclear power plant, based on the AP1000 nuclear reactor, in Lubiatowo-Kopalino in Pomerania.
KO MP: Take everything into account
Regarding the agreement between the Polish authorities and the American consortium, the KO parliamentarian said what shortcomings she believed the agreement had and what steps the current opposition government planned to take in this regard if it won the elections. At one point she was asked whether the Civic Coalition was considering the possibility of breaking the contract signed by PiS.
– We have to find out how binding it is and what penalties we will get if we withdraw from this contract – Zielińska said. – We have to look at everything and take everything into account. Of course, she added.
Zielińska said that checking the concluded contract is a consensus of the entire Civic Coalition.
The TVP Info portal pointed out that Zielińska had repeatedly spoken out as an opponent of the construction of nuclear power plants in Poland.
In its program, KO expresses support for nuclear energy, which is why the statement of the representative of the formation can be very confusing.
Nuclear power plant
Westinghouse is willing to participate in the construction of a nuclear power plant, also at a second location in Poland. According to the schedule adopted by the Council of Ministers, construction of the first Polish nuclear power plant will begin in 2026, and in 2033 the first nuclear power plant with a capacity of about 1-1.6 GW will be launched. Subsequent units will be deployed every 2-3 years, and the entire nuclear program assumes the construction of nuclear units with a total installed capacity of approximately 6 to 9 GWe, based on proven generation III (+) nuclear reactors.
Westinghouse Electric Company is shaping the future of carbon-free energy by delivering safe, innovative nuclear and other clean energy technologies and services around the world. Bechtel is a partner in the field of technology, construction and project management for industry and public administration.
