Samsung has decided to stop blocking gray market cell phones in Mexico.
He gray market refers to phones that work in Mexico but were purchased in other parts of the world.
Samsung Electronics Mexico issued a statement saying it is committed to its consumers by complying with regulations and maintaining dialogue with authorities.
In this sense and in accordance with the request made by Profeco together with IFT; We will stop blocking gray market cell phones.
Likewise, we express our willingness and interest to participate in working groups in order to work with the authorities and other participants in our sector to find the best solution to address the problems caused by the gray market in Mexico.
Previously, the Federal Prosecutor’s Office for Consumer Protection (Profeco) and the Federal Institute of Telecommunications (IFT) asked the companies to stop this measure.

This comes after warning that the measure “as implemented affects the rights of consumers and end users.”
Instead, he called on companies to form a task force to implement anti-grey market actions that do not affect consumers.
Profeco acknowledged that imports from the so-called “gray market” may “affect the quality of service provided, as well as the ability to confirm the manufacturer’s warranty.”
