Adr, sustainability in the aviation sector: the dedicated Foundation is born

It will aim to move the sector towards the 2030-2050 objectives

The CEO of Aeroporti di Roma, Marco Troncone, announced yesterday the creation of a Foundation that will aim to bring the air transport sector towards sustainability objectives 2030 – 2050. The announcement was made during the second annual Congress of the Pact for the Decarbonization of Air Transport. The day was an opportunity to announce the presentation of the Pact at the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (COP 28 United Arab Emirates), scheduled at Expo City Dubai from November 30 to December 12, 2023, with the side event «The Pact for the decarbonization of air transport: the Italian ecosystem for a roadmap to Net-Zero» selected by the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security.

«The path towards decarbonization of the aeronautical sector has already begun – commented Troncone. The path will certainly be long and challenging – he added – but we are confident that it will mark the first important objectives in the short term, with the dissemination of the Ssf in line with EU mandates and the transition to NetZero of the main airports. However, the objective of zero emissions for the entire sector requires a coordinated and shared long-term commitment from all actors involved and, in this sense, the reinforcement of the Pact through the creation of the Foundation effectively responds to this need” to air transport “It is one of the first Italian industrial sectors to come together to face the challenge of environmental transition. The results are arriving and the first stages, 2030, now seem achievable. There is an effort from all actors, including the airport sector”, added Troncone. «Credibility means having concrete solutions based on science that respond to the Planet’s needs, but that find an industrial response and that are effectively achievable, the Pact is providing a response in this sense».
