Heavy fines for gambling companies that allow Dutch people to gamble illegally

The Gambling Authority has fined Maltese gaming companies Goldwin LTD and MKC Limited (€6,794,000 and €900,000 respectively) for offering unlicensed online gambling.

Dutch players can register and participate via the websites westcasino.com and betworld247.com. No precautions were taken to keep Dutch out, such as IP blocking. The Betworld247.com website attracted more than 375,000 unique visitors from the Netherlands between June 2021 and May 2022. There were 843,132 people on Westcasino.com last year.

The ages of the players were also not adequately checked. This allowed entering age without passport control. René Jansen, head of the gambling authority, considers this an aggravating circumstance and speaks of a “serious crime”. MKC Limited may still appeal the penalty.
