Important conference of the President of the National Bank of Poland. The subject is attacks on the institution

Anyone who baselessly attacks the NBP damages its prestige and directly harms the well-being of Poland – said the President of the National Bank of Poland, Prof. Adam Glapinski.

A conference by Prof. Adam Glapinski took place on Friday. The President of the National Bank of Poland has raised several important issues, including related to: Accusations against institutions appearing in the public space.

– There has never been a serious case of violation of procedures, circulation and credibility of documents, violation of the law in the history of the NBP. There were no such cases or proceedings pending, not to mention any violation of the Constitution or law. Therefore, these publicly fought skirmishes with which we have nothing in common, damaging the welfare of the NBP, its image and prestige, are very painful for us. Please remember that anyone who baselessly attacks the NBP damages its prestige and directly harms the well-being of Poland, the well-being of our homeland – said Glapiński, recalling that the NBP is audited twice a year by the Supreme Court of Audit and always performs well during the audits. .

– We have several institutions that are internationally respected. We are among the most prestigious central banks – he added, noting that the right NBP policies have contributed to this.

Eurozone. If and possibly when?

The president of the state’s central bank again referred to the issue of the euro. He explained that Poland could only consider this option if the country reaches the level of prosperity of the most developed European countries. – We have often said that we can join the eurozone if we reach the level of economic development of the Western European countries. Then it makes economic sense. I don’t care if it has another meaning – that’s not our job – reminded Adam Glapiński.

Decrease in inflation

Later in the conference, the head of the NBP declared that high inflation had been defeated. – We have defeated the hydra of high inflation. There is no high inflation in Poland, he argued.

The price increase was 6.5 percent in October. Glapiński reminded that inflation is therefore three times lower than at its peak in February 2022. Over the past eight months, inflation has fallen by 12 percentage points.

Glapiński: President Mucha and I both want the well-being of the NBP

Adam Glapiński also raised the issue of the information that has been appearing in the public space for several days about the situation within the National Bank of Poland and the attitude of Paweł Mucha, member of the NBP Board of Directors.

He ruled that the dispute had been blown out of proportion by the media. – We are talking to President Paweł Mucha, we are looking for an agreement, maybe something was said too loudly, maybe something was written. We strive with joint efforts to put an end to this problem in solidarity, so that the administration can act together as a government in the face of the threat we face that threatens Poland. President Mucha and President Glapiński want the same thing: the well-being of the National Bank of Poland. The Board of Directors is united in the unity of common beliefs that the value of the prestige of the National Bank of Poland is of a very high order, he said.
