“Communications Armageddon in Warsaw”. What does Trzaskowski have in store for the residents?

In the shadow of the inauguration of the Sejm, Rafał Trzaskowski is preparing a communications armageddon in Warsaw – says Sebastian Kaleta, MP of Sovereign Poland.

According to him, the City Hall announced today that it proposes to extend the planned traffic calm zone to the entire districts of Śródmieście, Żoliborz, Praga Płn and almost all of Mokotów, Praga Południe, Ochota and Wola.

“From 2028, residents of this zone and the entire city of Warsaw will no longer be able to drive diesel vehicles produced before 2013 or petrol vehicles produced before 2006. If the residents of the zone have such vehicles in their garage, with the permission of the city guard, they will be able to drive them out four times a year.” – wrote Kaleta on the X website.

SCT. Warsaw is expanding the area of the Clean Transport Zone

Information appeared on the city’s official website that “after the consultations and additional analyses, the Warsaw Clean Transport Zone (SCT) will cover a larger area than originally planned and at the same time introduce additional solutions for the residents of Warsaw – including seniors and residents of the zone who pay “taxes” here.

– We have taken into account the voices of people living in the zone and of seniors who, for all kinds of reasons, may have difficulty adapting to the rules. At the same time, we listened to the voices of residents who care about health and air quality. That is why we decided to expand the area of the clean transport zone, which will make the effect on air quality significant – says Michał Olszewski, Vice President of Warsaw, quoted in the press release.

According to the new assumptions, the Warsaw Clean Transport Zone will cover: the entire districts of Śródmieście, Żoliborz and Praga Północ; almost all of Ochota (part of the Reduta shopping center, ul. Mszczonówcka and Dworzec Zachodni remain outside the SCT) and Praga Południe (Olszynka Grochowska remains outside the SCT: an uninhabited part of the train station and a nature reserve); most of Mokotów (Sadyba, Stegny, Augustówka and part of Służewiec remain outside the SCT); about half of Wola (to al. Prymasa Tysiąclecia).

Exceptions for residents

People living in the above-mentioned area and paying taxes in Warsaw will be exempt from meeting the zone’s requirements during the first two phases of its implementation. The VCT rules will only apply to them from January 2028. They are then no longer allowed to drive in the zone with a diesel vehicle older than 13 years or a petrol vehicle older than 22 years.

Other people and residents of Warsaw who bought a car after the resolution was passed are still bound by the previously presented requirements. From July 2024, they will not be allowed to drive a diesel vehicle older than 18 years old or a petrol vehicle older than 27 years old in the zone.

An additional exception will also be introduced for seniors (people who will be 70 years old by the end of 2023), provided they owned their vehicle before the adoption of the SCT resolution. This means that people over the age of 70, after meeting certain conditions, will be exempted indefinitely from the rules applicable under SCT.
