Euro in Poland? Poles say decisively ‘no’

Should the new KO, Third Way and Left government aim to introduce the euro in Poland? Poles say a decisive ‘no’.

The discussion about the introduction has been raging in Poland for years. President of the National Bank of Poland Prof. Adam Glapiński again referred to the issue of the euro during the conference on November 10. On Friday afternoon, the NBP organized a conference attended by most of the bank’s directors and the management of the legal department.

The NBP chairman explained that Poland could only consider this option when it reaches the level of prosperity of the most developed European countries. – We have often said that we can join the Eurozone if we reach the level of economic development of Western European countries – recalled Prof. Adam Glapinski. – If the situation continues to develop as it has in recent years, we will reach this level in eight to ten years at the latest. And then it’s up for discussion, but not before. However, it could also happen sooner, at Poland’s expense, he added.

Attack on the National Bank of Poland to introduce the euro?

At the same time, the chairman of the NBP noted that the recent attacks on this institution may be related to the desire to adopt the euro in Poland. – What is the purpose of this attack? I don’t want to guess. There is only one possible option – if anyone convinces me otherwise, we will be happy to agree – the desire to force Poland into the eurozone by force, by pulling its hair prematurely. – he pointed.

Let us not forget that the coalition agreement, signed by the leaders of the Civic Coalition (KO), Poland 2050-PSL and New Left, assumes, among other things, that bringing to constitutional responsibility “those responsible for attempts to use the state system illegally manner”, for violating the constitution and laws and violating the rule of law. Representatives of the current coalition have announced, among other things, in the media: the possibility of bringing the President of the NBP, Adam Glapiński, under constitutional responsibility and bringing him before the State Tribunal.
