This year 63.2 percent. Poles plan to do their shopping on Black Friday, 18.3 percent. compatriots have no such plans, and 18.5 percent are still undecided, according to a survey by UCE Research and the Offerista Group.

– A large part of Poles plan to buy something on Black Friday and this is good news for trade. However, it should be clearly noted that this percentage is relatively similar every year. There is an opinion on the market that Poles like discounts. And that’s true, but it looks different in different segments. According to a recently published survey, about 90 percent Poles buy food through promotions. However, on Black Friday, people hunt for other things: mainly clothes, shoes, perfumes and electronics. These are not first-time products, so the consumer mechanism works differently here,” said Robert Biegaj, co-author of the Offerista Group study, quoted in the release.

The survey also shows that 18.3 percent of fellow countrymen do not plan to take advantage of Black Friday offers, while 18.5 percent of Poles do not yet know whether they will shop on Black Friday.

How much do we spend on Black Friday?

Survey participants also reported how much money they spent in total on Black Friday purchases last year. Respondents most often indicated a range of 300-400 PLN – 13.8%. Then they declared 200-300 PLN – 12.4%. The answers for 400-500 PLN and above 1,000 PLN received 12.3% each. This year, Poles most often announce that they will spend 400-500 PLN – 12.9%, compared to 1,000 – 12.3% PLN. and PLN 300-400 – 12.1 percent. That’s why shoppers want to spend more at the moment, it was pointed out.

The research also shows that this was 23.8 percent on Black Friday last year. Poles were most interested in discounts of 40 to 50 percent: 19.3 percent. respondents declared discounts of up to 30-40 percent, as well as 50-60 percent. – 16.3 percent topics. This year, consumers indicate that they mainly want to benefit from discounts of 50-60%. – 21.9 percent indications, 40-50 percent – 20.5 percent, as well as 30-40 percent – 14.5 percent..

Experts from UCE Research also point out another interesting trend. Poles are marginally interested in or do not want to chase discounts above 70 percent, this year the margin is 70-80 percent. had 7 percent indications, and above 80 percent – 6.1 percent, but last year it was even worse: 70-80 percent. – 5.3 percent declarations, and above 80 percent – 3.7 percent..

“My observations show that consumers – often discouraged by previous experiences – do not trust stores very much. They look for offers that seem safe and realistic to them. Of course, promotions above 70% take place on Black Friday in Poland, but there are none. Many of them. It is also not always about the most interesting goods. In addition, it can be added that this shopping holiday in the domestic market, although there is a lot of marketing, is not very attractive to consumers. In 2021 Deloitte reported that Black Friday brought average discounts of 3.6 percent, and almost 60 percent of online stores in Poland did not change prices during this period. This was comparable in previous years,” Biegaj concludes.

The survey was conducted on November 13-14, 2023 using the CAWI (Computer Assisted Web Interview) method by UCE Research and the Offerista Group on a sample of 1,056 adult Poles.
