A new head of Poland’s Financial Supervisory Authority (KNF) will be appointed on Thursday, according to Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki’s statement.
– The nomination will take place on the day when the term of office of the Chairman of the Polish Financial Supervisory Authority expires – Morawiecki said at a press conference on Monday.
The current head of the Polish Financial Supervisory Authority is Jacek Jastrzębski. His term ends on November 23, next Thursday.
In accordance with the Law of 21 July 2006 on the Supervision of Financial Markets, the Chairman of the Polish Financial Supervisory Authority is appointed by the Prime Minister for a term of office of five years.
There are three deputy heads of the Polish Financial Supervisory Authority responsible for individual sectors: capital, banking and insurance. They are appointed by the Prime Minister at the request of the chairman of the bureau.
Morawiecki the new head of the Polish Financial Supervisory Authority?
Piotr Gociek and Cezary Gmyz write in the latest issue of the weekly magazine “Do Rzeczy” that the candidate for the new chairman of the Polish Financial Supervisory Authority, under serious consideration, is Mateusz Morawiecki.
“As for the Polish Financial Supervisory Authority itself, we would accept this task blindly. We don’t know if you know that the head of the Polish Financial Supervisory Authority earns several times more than the Prime Minister and the President combined. And he “He has enormous power, comparable to the head of the Supreme Court of Audit. And he is not that bad at all. Small office. The only question that remains to be clarified is whether Mateusz should resign his mandate as a Member of Parliament. It is however, it would not be a major loss because the term of office of the head of the Polish Financial Supervisory Authority is one year longer than the term of office of the Sejm,” Gociek and Gmyz said.
According to journalists, Morawiecki’s candidacy is “very popular with the PiS tops, who, to put it mildly, unlike the Chief (Jarosław Kaczyński – ed.), do not like Mateusz. And they don’t like it so much that they are even willing to agree to his high merits in a new role, as long as he disappears from the horizon,” we read in the column of two by Mr G.
