Octopus Energy launches Solar Club, the first Renewable Energy Community

Octopus Energy, an energy company founded with the aim of making renewable energy accessible to everyone, has launched Solar Club, the project supporting the growth and development of Communities for Energy (CER), an innovative form of association that aims to promote the conscious and conscious use of renewable energy sources. Use of resources and sharing of energy resources at the local level.

Solar Club comes ready, eliminating bureaucratic delays and ahead of the publication of the new decree for energy communities. To achieve this goal, Octopus Energy decided to finance this first batch directly with its own resources, covering not only the production part (solar panels) but also the incentive part.

This is thanks to the investment in Octopus Energy through Octopus Generation, the group’s arm that deals with renewable energy production and enables more autonomous and faster processes. Speed, autonomy and commitment to the company mission are hallmarks that characterize Octopus Energy’s approach to any innovative project.

The first Solar Club was born in Ascoli Piceno and will be able to power around 80 homes and a medium-sized company, but the aim is to expand throughout Italy with a total investment of around 5 million euros.

It is an initiative that Giorgio Tomassetti, CEO of Octopus Energy Italia, describes as “an important step towards renewable energy that is accessible and sustainable for all, an innovative tool that stimulates consumption when and where it is produced.”

Joining the Octopus Energy energy community costs nothing and is very simple. Once registered, Octopus is considered an incentive for the community member when the solar system near your home produces energy (i.e. every time the sun shines) and you tend to consume the energy produced by the system.

A key element of Octopus Energy’s mission is to invest in renewable energy generation facilities located near CERs. In this way, renewable energy will be produced locally and used efficiently, contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

This approach offers many advantages to our country:

● Increasing renewable energy production: CERs make it possible to increase the amount of energy produced from renewable sources, contributing significantly to the transition to a more sustainable energy system.
● Consumer awareness and reward: CER member citizens are made aware of the importance of renewable energy and rewarded for their smart use through government incentives.
● Savings in grid infrastructure: CERs can reduce the need for expensive investment in grid infrastructure due to the local use of renewable energy and reducing congestion on electricity grids.

CERs represent a union between citizens, businesses and municipalities and receive contributions from the State for renewable energy produced and consumed by their members. It is important to note that the geographical boundaries of CERs depend on the structure of the local power grid, but the opportunity to participate is open to everyone.

Octopus Energy is committed to encouraging the transition to a more responsible energy future and the Solar Club project is just one of many steps in this direction.
