To ensure Sinterklaas night is no more exciting than ever, PostNL is once again deploying additional staff and resources this year to ensure all gifts are delivered on time. The postal and parcel delivery company has announced that it is making extra top-ups this year to prevent mail from arriving late from Black Friday to Christmas.
PostNL, for example, is planning 1,500 additional delivery trips for the holiday month, and 300 additional trucks will be used to deliver all shipments, says Greg Camoenié, director of e-commerce and operations, in an interview with NOS. “We have also planned an additional delivery day on Sunday, November 26th. People at the headquarters will also come to work in the company.”
According to Camoenié, this is a tradition of the postal company; It says it delivers almost double the 1.1 million packages delivered on a normal day during the holidays each year. These parts are usually delivered in an average of 4,500 trips per day, starting from Black Friday week, this number will be around 6,000.
Three years ago, PostNL could not even process party mail during the Corona period. Due to record density, the company stopped receiving packages from online stores for a while. PostNL’s delivery system was clogged as many consumers also ordered their gifts too late.
Lessons were learned from this chaotic month. A year ago, around Christmas, 4.6 percent of packages were arriving late to customers. In 2021, this rate was almost twice as high, at 8.7 percent.
It’s hard to guess
PostNL says the 2023 festival month is harder to predict than last year due to the recession. “Consumers are a little more cautious about their spending,” says Camoenié. “There are fewer orders this summer than last year. Therefore, we will have a slightly steeper peak this Eid month.” Camoenié says it will deliver “a few percent” more packages than last year.
PostNL hired additional staff during the summer months to avoid the year-end rush. “We’ve hired another thousand people who will stay with us next year.” Camoenie is not afraid of something going wrong: “I sleep very well because of the preparation. “I have great confidence.”
PostNL asks consumers to place their orders on time. “Give us the opportunity to deliver packages on time. Order at least a few days in advance.”
