Baggage handlers at Schiphol are willing to pay their employees significantly higher wages. In less than two years, employees can improve by an average of 33 percent. This emerges from the negotiation outcome announced by the FNV union.
If union members accept, wages will increase by an average of 19 percent on January 1. There will be another salary increase after a year. Everyone working full-time receives at least 350 Euros gross per month in two stages.
Rumbling
There has been a lot of turmoil in Schiphol in recent years. The baggage team stopped working several times due to poor working conditions. This led to the industry’s first collective agreement last year. A chaotic May holiday followed, partly due to baggage personnel shortages. In the meetings that followed, summer bonuses were given to the employees.
But this year the shadow of new actions hung almost constantly over the airport. Due to strong inflation, the union again demanded significant wage increases for (sometimes very) difficult jobs. Earlier this month, employers and unions met at the negotiating table again.
Union members will be able to vote on the results next week.
