Oil has never been cheaper (in 2023)

The average price of gasoline at the pump reached an all-time low this year. This was announced today by the Ministry of Commerce and Made in Italy, which determines the average fuel price daily, based on data transmitted by operators operating along the Italian road and motorway network.

Between 17-19 May, gasoline is 1.81 euro/litre

The national average petrol price recorded on the roads this morning was 1.81 euros per litre, the lowest since the beginning of the year, with the same value recorded between 17 and 19 May. The cost per liter of gasoline has fallen by almost 20 euro cents in the last two months (19 cents between 22 September and 22 November). In fact, the average price of diesel has seen a significant contraction of around 15 euro cents per liter in the last two months, although it did not reach the minimum values of last May, when international diesel prices were significantly lower than current prices.

A consequence that, according to the ministerial interpretation, also contributes to the exposure of the average price and leads to the limitation of the distribution margin (a delta of about 8-9 cents per liter if we compare the summer of 2023 with the previous one) and hence the industrial price of oil. Thanks to limited distribution margins, the industrial price of fuel in Italy is now consistently lower than in Germany, France and Spain.

“Gasoline on the roads is at 1.81 euros per liter, the lowest figure of the year. Margins of oil companies decreased by 9 cents compared to a year ago. The effectiveness of displaying average prices is proven by the results”,
Comment from Adolfo Urso, Minister of Trade and Made in Italy.

Gasoline price causes Renzi and Meloni to argue

The price of gasoline was brought up in the Senate yesterday due to the conflict between Renzi and Meloni. “Yesterday, for the first time since the beginning of the legislative assembly, Giorgia Meloni appeared in the Parliament to answer the senators’ question time. Realizing the Prime Minister’s great talent in debates in parliament, I was wondering on what issues he would impose himself on communication offensive And instead, with a big surprise , I saw a nervous Prime Minister who was worried above all about not responding to substantive criticism. I was a direct witness of this”, writes Matteo Renzi in an editorial in Riformista, which he also published on his social channels.

The leader of IV stated that in his speech at Palazzo Madama he cited a number of data, but “he blames Meloni – he himself – evaded the facts and did not comment on the figures, but talked about spreads and macroeconomic indicators. He lied and denies that he never said he wanted to leave the euro (By the way: get ready, tomorrow we will devote two pages to the prime minister’s constant retreat.) He attacked me by explaining that the cost of oil depends on Saudi Arabia, I ignore the fact that there is an excise tax, it is not Bin Salman, you are increasing it. My objection is that Italian citizens “It’s because he’s been in worse shape than before for a year.”

The Prime Minister strongly opposed the government’s action. The opposition held out despite PD group leaders Francesco Boccia and Five Star Movement Stefano Patuanelli. But with Renzi, it was a real ring: “Play the role of Cinderella,” he told her. Is oil too expensive? “Help us with your friend Bin Salman,” he replied.

“What struck me was the tone of an old-fashioned rally – Renzi says today – that the majority of parliamentarians, instead of representing national unity with discipline and dignity, were used as a claptrap that could make the audience in Ballarò applaud on command, even if you did not know what to applaud. Some advice to the President I’ve been there, because I’ve been there and I know how it feels: beware of flatterers, dear Giorgia. They will be the first to leave. I know very well what you try in these situations, I’m an expert on this subject: many influencers who praise you when things are going well, who betray you at the first difficulty I saw.”
