I will talk to representatives of major international financial institutions to draw their attention to the fact that what Donald Tusk plans to do today is the biggest attack on the independence of the NBP – Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki emphasized.
The coalition agreement signed by the leaders of the Civic Coalition, the Third Way (Poland 2050 and PSL) and the New Left assumes, among other things: bringing to constitutional responsibility “those responsible for attempts to unlawfully change the state system, violating the constitution and laws and violating the rule of law.” Representatives of the parliamentary majority announce, among other things, the following: the possibility of bringing the chairman of the NBP, Prof., under constitutional responsibility and bringing him before the State Tribunal Adam Glapinski.
Recently, Marta Kightley, First Vice President of the NBP, in an interview for Business Insider Polska, referred to these announcements and the arguments being formulated against the President of the National Bank of Poland. As she emphasized, “There are no grounds to summon the NBP president to the State Tribunal.” – I cannot find any argument that would justify the State Tribunal indicting the NBP President and thus suspending him from office. You can’t do things like that based on unrealistic assumptions. This is bad for the country, the institutional order and the economy, she stressed.
Attack on the independence of the National Bank of Poland. Morawiecki responds
Last week, the President of the National Bank of Poland, Prof. Adam Glapiński said at a conference with most members of the NBP Board of Directors, among others, that the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank and the European Central Bank will inform about the announcements to bring him before the State Tribunal. Now Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki plans to take the same step. – I will speak to representatives of major international financial institutions – the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the European Central Bank – to draw their attention to the fact that what Mr Donald Tusk and the Citizens’ Coalition intend to do today is the largest attack on the world. independence of the central bank – he said at a press conference of the head of government.
According to Morawiecki, “even suggestions” to take the NBP president to the State Tribunal are an attempt to put undue pressure on the independence of the central bank. – Imagine that every coalition formed after every election concludes that the central bank governor must be replaced. Would this mean that this president is still independent? After all, the legislature guaranteed the independence of the president of the central bank for six years in the constitution, so that such political theater could not be practiced, the prime minister emphasized.
