Transport bonus returns from 1 December 2023: How to apply for 60 euros

We’re almost there. The carry bonus is back. On Friday, December 1, at 8 am, the Ministry of Labor’s platform for the purchase of season tickets for local, regional and national rail public transport reopens. As in the past, the maximum income requirement of 20 thousand euros per year continues. The resources available will be those remaining from the bonus not being available in November. This is a voucher of up to 60 euros for the purchase of monthly passes valid for several months, or annual passes in many cities (list of participating cities and local public transport operators is here).

Barring exceptional sessions, it will be the last chance to claim the transport bonus in 2023. Therefore, the date to be marked on the calendar is Friday, December 1, and the Ministry of Labor and Social Policies portal will accept requests until the fund runs out at 08.00. As always in these cases, there will be a race for clicks.

Transport bonus 2023-2024: who qualifies for it

The 60-euro bonus, introduced by the 2022 Aid decree and paid by the Ministry of Infrastructure, is an immediate discount on the purchase of travel cards for local, regional and interregional public transport on trains, trams and buses: it also includes monthly passes. Multi-monthly or annual for national rail transportation, excluding first class, executive, business, executive club, lounge, premium and workspace services.

A small but tangible aid to students and commuters in using public transport, with positive impacts on environmental sustainability. The incentive, financed with 112 million euros this year, is for people with a declared annual income of up to 20 thousand euros in 2022. Last year the maximum income ceiling for accessing the measure was 35 thousand euros per year.

A month ago the Ministry of Labor added another 35 million euros, which was sold out on click day on November 1. Friday’s appointment will rely on resources left over from the bonus not being available in November. It will be possible to purchase the subscription until December 31, otherwise the money will be returned to the platform.

How to apply

To access the Ministry of Labor portal, you need a SPID or electronic identification card (CIE). The beneficiary will be asked to complete a self-certification statement indicating the amount and the transport service manager. Beneficiaries who have received the bonus in previous months can also apply. However, the coupon remains nominal, can only be used for one subscription and is not transferable to third parties.
