To convince reluctant Republicans, the White House published a map of American states that made money by producing weapons for Ukraine.
President Joe Biden has already drawn the attention of members of Congress to the fact that American manufacturers benefit from the supply of military equipment to Ukraine. To convince reluctant Republicans, the White House has now resorted to a visual campaign. In recent days, the Biden administration has circulated a map of individual states on Capitol Hill that is intended to show planned investments in weapons and ammunition production worth $27 billion.
Pennsylvania received the most contracts: $2.364 billion. At the same time, three of the eight Republicans representing that state in Congress voted against further aid to Ukraine, notes Reuters, which analyzed the list drawn up by the White House.
Of the 25 Republicans in Texas, 18 were not in favor of giving new funds to Kiev. However, companies operating in the state received $1.45 billion to produce 155-millimeter bullets and other weapons.
Washington provided $2.196 billion in government contracts to Arizona companies, while three of the state’s six Republicans opposed aid to Ukraine.
Companies in Arkansas and Wisconsin also received more than $1 billion. The rest, about $18 billion, goes to gun manufacturers in other states.
US aid to Ukraine. Congress continues to say no to Biden
Biden previously asked Congress for $106 billion for Ukraine, Israel, operations in the Asia-Pacific region and strengthening U.S. borders. Most of this amount will go to Kiev ($61.4 billion), and about half will be allocated to replenishing weapons stockpiles in the United States.
Military aid to Ukraine meets US interests not only in terms of security, but also in terms of the economy, Biden said in a televised address to the country on October 20. – Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems are produced in Arizona, and artillery shells are produced in twelve states, including Pennsylvania, Ohio and Texas. democracy and serving the cause”.
However, so far, thanks to the opposition of a group of Republicans in the House of Representatives, Congress has approved financing the US budget without expenditures related to aid to Ukraine.
