The worthy goal is to spread the culture of mental health. The doubling of the psychologist’s bonus for this year comes with an additional credit of 5 million euros: a contribution of up to 50 euros for each psychotherapy session. A small but important signal. In a civilized country, psychological well-being should not be the exclusive privilege of those who can afford it. The new funds are provided by an amendment reformulated by the government in the advance decree. The burden is met through a corresponding reduction in the allocation of the special fund registered under MEF’s Reserve and Special Funds programme.
How to request a psychologist bonus?
However, psychologist bonuses will not be given to everyone who requests them. Ask INPS. It is always the responsibility of the social security institution to determine the application deadline (with at least 30 days’ notice for at least 2 months). The bonus must be used within 270 days after receiving it, otherwise the bonus will be forfeited. It is recognized only once. Value varies by ISEE. The decree sets thresholds:
- Maximum ceiling of 1,500 euros (up to 50 euros per session) for incomes with an ISEE amount below 15 thousand euros;
- 1,000 euros for income between 15 thousand and 30 thousand euros with ISEE (up to 50 euros per session);
- 500 Euros (up to 50 Euros per session) for incomes with an ISEE over 30 thousand but below 50 thousand.
INPS will always sort by region, identifying beneficiaries based on the amount of resources. Stating that the green light for the psychologist bonus has been awaited for a long time, Minister Schillaci underlined that “this is part of a more general intervention aimed at strengthening the structures and services to undertake tasks in the field of mental health, which we also carry out through the mental health roundtable meeting.” “To spread the field and the culture of mental health”. In 2022, only 40 thousand of more than 400 thousand applications were accepted and 25 million euros were made available. It is unlikely that we can do more with less than half of the funds.
