Next year will start with a nice surprise for Italian retirees, who will see their monthly amounts increase at the same rate as inflation. So when will retirement payments be made in 2024?
When will pensions come?
The calendar should continue to follow the currently known rules, unless there are any changes or turns; i.e. payment for all 12 monthly payments on the first bank account day of the month. However, the 1st of the month does not always fall on a working day; There are actually a few cases where this falls on a weekend or holiday. When this happens, the rule is simple: payment is postponed until the next day or the first profit. We would also like to remind you that payments may differ between people who receive their pension in a bank account and customers of the Italian Post Office: banks are only open until Friday, while post offices are open on Saturday morning. Therefore, if the first banking day is a Saturday, Post Office customers will receive their pensions a little earlier.
Payments, 2024 calendar
The year immediately begins with a singularity. New Year’s Eve, January 1, is a public holiday and the first bank payment day will be Tuesday, January 2, but only in this case, payments will be made on the second available day, i.e. Wednesday, January 3, 2024. Give INPS the time it needs to update all IT systems. There is no need to wait in the following months. Monthly salaries for February will be paid on Thursday, April 1, the third month will be paid on Friday, March 1, and the fourth month will be paid on Monday, April 1. The second postponement of the year is also a “classic”: May 1, Labor Day. In 2024, May pensions will be paid on Thursday, the 2nd.
In June, the first dispute will occur between the bank and the post office. The pension for postal account holders will arrive on Saturday, June 1, while those who receive it from a bank account will have to wait until Monday, June 3. The following month, pensions will be paid to everyone on Monday, July 1, and in August, with payments due on Thursday, September 1. September 1, 2024 is on Sunday: in this case, everything will be postponed until Monday, September 2, 2024. The monthly payment will instead occur on Tuesday, October 1, 2024. November’s situation is special. The 1st of the month is All Saints’ Day and today is Friday: Therefore, Post Office payments will start on Saturday, November 2, while banks will have to wait until Monday, November 4. Let’s wait a little for the last month of the year. Since December 1st is a Sunday, everything will be postponed until Monday, December 2nd. For your convenience, here is a summary of the dates:
- January: Wednesday, January 3, 2024;
- February: Thursday, February 1, 2024;
- March: Friday, March 1, 2024;
- April: Monday, April 1, 2024;
- May: Thursday, May 2, 2024;
- June: Saturday, 2 June 2024 (Post Office) – Monday, 3 June 2024 (banks);

We remind you that Poste Italiane will continue to provide a month-by-month alphabetical calendar for retirees who prefer to receive their pensions directly from post offices. A rule that was introduced during the pandemic to prevent crowding and long queues at post offices and later became traditional. Usually the calendar is divided into four days in alphabetical order: A to C, D to K, L to P, and Q to Z. Finally, to always stay up to date on your pension and monthly amounts, it is recommended that you do the following: Access the private area of the INPS website via your Spid, Cie or Cns credentials.
