Salaries of catering staff will increase by 8 to 12 percent. This is the result of collective bargaining between FNV Horeca and CNV Vakmensen on the one hand, and the employers of Koninklijke Horeca Nederland on the other. For the first time, internship pay was included in the collective agreement.
Unions still need to present the results to their supporters.
12 percent for the largest group
According to FNV, the 12 percent increase will benefit the largest group of employees in the catering industry. There are nearly half a million catering workers in total in the Netherlands.
With the minimum wage increasing to 13.27 euros as of January 1, 2024, low-paid young professionals will also benefit from the collective agreement. According to the union, this increase also makes it difficult to maintain the salary scale.
The agreement is valid for 2024 only. “This creates scope for negotiations next year,” says FNV Horeca’s Edwin Vlek.
No difference between permanent service and zero hours
During the interviews, no distinction was made between people working permanently and those working on a zero-hour contract. However, the second group receives more minimum wage.
