The raises will take effect Jan. 1, but won’t end up in teachers’ pockets on Jan. 1, Barbara Nowacka said.
The Sejm elected the Council of Ministers by an absolute majority, in accordance with the proposal of Civic Platform leader Donald Tusk. 248 MPs voted in favor of the motion of confidence in the government, 201 were against and no one abstained.
The swearing-in ceremony of the new government took place in the presidential palace on Wednesday morning. – I am very moved. This is a unique moment not only in the scope of one man’s biography, Prime Minister Tusk said.
Pay increases for teachers postponed
Ministers from Donald Tusk’s government take over the ministries of their predecessors from Law and Justice. Barbara Nowacka spoke at the opening conference marking her takeover of the Ministry of Education. The new minister answered questions from journalists, including the issue of promised pay increases for teachers.
– The increases will take effect from January 1, but cannot reach the teachers’ pockets on January 1, because the budget is adopted with some delay, so we assume somewhere in February, but that will of course be compensated – said Barbara Nowacka. – From January 1, dear ladies and gentlemen, things will be a little better – the Minister of Education said to the teachers.
No homework before the holidays
Nowacka appealed to primary school teachers to “give children this year off from their homework for the upcoming Christmas holidays.” – I think it is a good start, a good start and a good breath – said the politician at a press conference.
– The school must be separated from political parties. It should be an apolitical place where young people obviously have discussions that may border on politics, but party officials do not tell them how the school should function. Therefore, there will be urgent changes in the field of probation officers, which I would kindly like to inform all the people who hold these probation positions. This change will happen very quickly in the coming days, the Education Minister said.
