Johannes Hahn stated that the European Commission will certainly “find ways to help Poland” obtain the EU funds it is entitled to. This concerns a loan from the Reconstruction Fund after the corona pandemic, namely the amount of 111 billion euros from the National Recovery Plan and the Cohesion Fund, frozen by Brussels in connection with the dispute over the rule of law.
The commissioner added that there is “no doubt” that the new government is “moving in the right direction when it comes to the rule of law”. However, he emphasized that it is not about an immediate transfer of cash, but about unlocking the possibility of obtaining it.
His words provoked a number of reactions in Poland, most of which reflect surprise at the European Commission’s previous signals. So far, the EC has maintained that Poland must absolutely meet all milestones to be able to unblock funds from the KPO.
