Amazon has allocated more than Złoty 20 billion in Poland for investments to support the local economy, employment and SME development in 2012-2022, the company announced, citing a report by independent consultancy Keystone. This contributed to the increase in Poland’s GDP by more than PLN 24 billion, it was pointed out.

“Poland has become an important center for the development of new technologies for Amazon. Since the first investment in our country, the purchase of the Gdańsk start-up IVONA Software in 2012, the company has continuously invested money in the development of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and three Technology Development Centers (Amazon Development Center Poland) in Gdańsk, Krakow and Warsaw. Here, Amazon’s most modern solutions are developed and implemented,” we read in the announcement.

Technology is the driving force behind all of Amazon’s business activities in Poland. Above all, it is the basis for the development of e-commerce. Therefore, as the demand for services increases, Amazon is focusing on the development of operations and the efficiency of logistics centers, it was emphasized.

Investments in Poland

“Infrastructure investments are needed to meet growing customer demand, expand the product range and support a greater number of merchants. At the same time, advanced technologies keep our employees safe and make it easier for them to work every day performance. These solutions, in turn, change the nature of work, which is why we have created more than 700 categories of completely new positions in our logistics centers that require the right qualifications and are the result of technological evolution and the robotization of logistics processes” , said Sławomir Płonka, Regional Director of Amazon Operations for Central and Eastern Europe, quoted in the material.

In Poland, Amazon created and supported more than 70,000 direct and indirect jobs by 2022. This includes jobs for people who work in the supply chain and supports Amazon’s operations, as well as jobs created by small and medium-sized businesses that sell through the marketplace, reaching hundreds of millions of customers around the world. According to Keystone’s estimates, Amazon’s investments in Poland over the period 2012-2022 have generated a total of more than 15 billion złoty in rewards, it was also highlighted.

Amazon has been active in Poland since 2014. Amazon.pl was launched in March 2021.
