Industrial conglomerate Grupo Carso has reached an agreement to buy a 50% stake in the Ichalkil and Pococh oil fields for $530 million, according to a company statement Monday.
The fields, located approximately 42 kilometers off the Gulf Coast, currently produce about 16,350 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
The acquisition is still subject to regulatory approval.

In September 2015, the Mexican state transferred the Ichalquil-Pococh field to a company based in Houston, Fieldwood Energy in consortium with Petrobal.
According to the conglomerate, the Mexican government receives compensation in the amount of 74% of the project’s operating profits, in addition to royalties on production, quotas, taxes and rights established in the regulations and in the agreed Production Sharing Agreement of the Contract. Production started in the second quarter of 2021.
