Good news to all consumers. With the new financial system, the Rai license fee will decrease from 90 euros to 70 euros; Thus, a net saving of 20 euros will be achieved for all Italians. However, it should be noted that this is not a structural reform regarding the license fee, but a measure valid only for 2024.
However, the methods by which the tax is collected will not change and will once again be included in the electricity bill. A method created by the Renzi government to prevent forms of smuggling: Currently the Rai license fee is spread over 10 months. Everyone who owns a television has to pay for it.
However, as Economy Minister Giorgetti noted, this is only the first step towards an overall reform of the license fee. In the future, this may concern all phone line owners and therefore also affect laptop, PC and smartphone ownership. A possibility avoided by the government by leaving the collection method and number of users who must pay unchanged for the next year but reducing the amount payable.
