Big discounts coming soon: How much will those who buy electric (or rechargeable) cars save

There is no official confirmation at the moment, but there is no denial either. We are talking about the news that ‘Sole 24 Ore’ and ‘Repubblica’ have been waiting for recently, that the government will be ready to implement new incentives for those who buy electric or hybrid cars.

This time the discounts are expected to be quite large: for cars with CO2 emissions between 0 and 20 grams per km (mainly fully electric ones), starting from a minimum of 6,000 euros (without scrap) and going up to 13,000 euros for everyone else. Scrapping a vehicle will cost 2 euros, regardless of income. For those below the ISEE threshold of €30,000, discounts will be even more generous: the “base” incentive is €7,500, but for those scrapping a Euro 2 vehicle it can even reach €13,750.

Therefore, those with lower income will pay less, but everyone will continue to benefit from the discounts. The only condition (in addition to emissions) is the cost of the car, which should not exceed 35,000 euros (excluding VAT) for electric ones, or 42,700 euros if we add value added tax.

How much will it cost to buy an electric car

Let’s give a few examples. The basic Tesla Model 3, priced at 42,490, can be purchased for a price ranging from 36,490 to 28,740 euros, depending on the incentive. The cost of a Volkswagen Id.3 can fall from 40,900 euros to 34,900 euros without scrapping, and go up to 27,150 euros if you take advantage of the highest discount. For small cars, the situation gets even more interesting: an electric Twingo costing 24,050 euros could cost just over 10,000 euros for those benefiting from the 13,750 euro incentive.

Additions Range 61-135 grams
ISEE less than 30,000 Euros No ISEE limit ISEE less than 30,000 Euros No ISEE limit
No scrapping 7,500 6,000 euros 5,000 4,000
Scrapping up to 2 euros 13,750 11,000 10,000 8,000 3,000
Scrapping of Euro 3 12,500 10,000 7,500 6,000 2,000
Scrapping of Euro 4 11,250 9,000 6,875 5,500 1,500

In short, if the new eco-bonus were actually valid, sales of battery-powered cars could actually see a boost. But discounts will also be generous for those buying other types of cars. Incentives will also be paid in emissions ranges between 21 and 60 grams (plug-in hybrids) and 61-135 grams (full hybrids, as well as various Euro6 diesel and petrol models). Regarding thermal cars, the savings will be between 1,500 and 3,000 euros, but this saving will be linked to the scrapping of the car. For plug-in hybrids this will be more significant: from 4 thousand euros (without scrapping and income restrictions) to 10,000 euros with a vehicle scrapping of 2 euros and an ISEE below 30 thousand euros. Plug-in cars whose cost (excluding VAT) does not exceed 45,000 euros will be able to benefit from the incentive.
