Rai license fee in 2024 slightly less

In 2024, the Rai license fee is slightly lower than in 2023. The latest budget law actually reduced the amount of the television subscription fee for private use from 90 euros to 70 euros for this year. This tax, which was introduced in 1938 as a broadcast subscription, is today a tax on television ownership. It is calculated based on the registered family (provided that family members live in the same house) and not on the number of devices installed in the home. By registered family we mean “a group of people connected by marriage, civil union, kinship, affinity, adoption, guardianship or emotional ties, living together and having habitual residence in the same municipality”. In Italy, even non-residents must pay the license fee if they have a television at home.

The Revenue Administration announced the Rai license fee amounts for various situations that may occur as of 2024. First of all, it should not be forgotten that, after the Renzi reform, since 2016, the TV license fee has been directly reflected in the bills of all users receiving electricity supply. The amount of Rai license fee is reflected in the electricity bill in 10 installments between January and October and is collected through a monthly or bimonthly invoice.

Other payment methods other than installment payments are available to some taxpayers. Citizens who are charged on their electricity bill or, alternatively, retirees who prefer to have the payment deducted directly from their pension need not do anything: in these cases, charging will be the responsibility of the electricity companies and social security institutions. new reduced quantities. Other taxpayers who already have a TV subscription and cannot be included in the electricity bill must pay the fee of 70 Euros for the entire year until January 31, 2024, using the form. F24 (TVRI tax code) ). Families whose members do not have an electricity supply contract from which TV license fees can be charged will also have to pay.

The law provides exemption from paying the Rai license fee to those who do not have a television or a device that receives radio and television signals. Taxpayers over the age of 75 and whose annual income is less than 8 thousand euros are exempt from television ownership tax. Those who are over the age of 75 and whose income is less than 8 thousand euros and still pay the fee must submit a backup declaration proving that they meet the conditions. You can then request a refund using the online form on the Revenue Administration website.
