Morawiecki appeals to the government. “The key to energy security”

Poland’s first nuclear power plant is the key to Poland’s energy security, said former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.

Pomeranian Voivodeship Beata Rutkiewicz and Deputy Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodeship Leszek Bonna stated that it is necessary to reconsider the location of the nuclear power plant. According to the original decision, it was to be built in the municipality of Choczewo. However, Rutkiewicz and Bonna suggest it should be Żarnowiec.

As reported by the portal energetyka24.pl, introducing changes to the nuclear power plant construction program at this point would practically derail the entire project. Moreover, such a decision would also have international consequences. Americans are involved in the construction of the power plant.

Morawiecki: Let’s not waste time

– The first Polish nuclear power plant is the key to Poland’s energy security. Safety, which we have set as our absolute priority. After years of negotiations, we have reached an agreement with our most important partner: the United States. Poland cannot afford to postpone the construction of a nuclear power plant today, former Prime Minister and PiS politician Mateusz Morawiecki said in a recording published on the X platform on Thursday.

– That is why I call on the new government to continue working on our strategic projects that strengthen our security. Let us continue to invest in modern technologies so that we can maintain the rapid pace of development of recent years. Let us not forget that Poland faces major challenges. Let’s not waste time on minimalism. Let’s build a strong and safe Poland – called the former head of government.

Nuclear power plant in Poland

Let us not forget that at the end of October 2022, the Government of Law and Justice chose the technology of the American company Westinghouse to implement the nuclear power plant project.

According to the schedule adopted by the Council of Ministers, construction of the first Polish nuclear power plant will begin in 2026, and in 2033 the first nuclear power plant with a capacity of about 1-1.6 GW will be launched. Subsequent units will be deployed every 2-3 years, and the entire nuclear program assumes the construction of nuclear units with a total installed capacity of approximately 6 to 9 GWe, based on proven generation III (+) nuclear reactors.
