Teacher salary and homework problems. Heavy PiS conference

Mariusz Błaszczak and Anna Zalewska sharply criticized the government for its actions regarding the size of teacher pay increases and the issue of homework.

Another problem concerns the pay increases for teachers announced by the coalition. It turns out that the increases – at least for the time being – will be lower than announced during the election campaign.

Politicians from this group appeared at a press conference on Monday where they criticized the actions of the new management of the Ministry of Education.

Pay increases for teachers. PiS: The government is cheating

The following spoke: Head of the Parliamentary Club of Jarosław Kaczyński’s party, Mariusz Błaszczak.

– Teachers are one of the professional groups that the coalition used in the election campaign on December 13. Those from last year, but they have also been used before. Teachers trusted the coalition on December 13 and were treated as such. We are dealing with cynicism, hypocrisy and fraud, the politician said.

Błaszczak criticized the “December 13 coalition”

– We demand that the requirements are met. We are of course talking about our attitude, the attitude of PiS. We have always fulfilled our obligations, credibility is undoubtedly our asset. In the case of the December 13 coalition, they say one thing and then do the opposite. That is why we require a minimum of PLN 1,500 in basic salary to achieve the increase, Błaszczak said.

During the conference, an excerpt was shown in which excerpts from Donald Tusk’s statements from the election campaign were quoted.

– Tusk promised at least 1,500 PLN, but he gave how much? Three times less. We demand through social pressure, by causing social pressure, the fulfillment of this obligation – he added.

Local PiS conferences

– Starting today, our parliamentarians will organize press conferences in their constituencies at the coalition’s parliamentary offices on December 13, so that this information reaches the educational community and to put real, concrete pressure on the coalition on December 13. So that the publicly made commitment is fulfilled, the politician emphasized.

Homework

On Friday, Education Minister Barbara Nowacka announced the introduction of a package of reforms in Polish education.

One of its elements is the assignment of mandatory and assessed homework. Initially, the changes will apply to primary school students, but eventually middle school and high school students will no longer have to do homework. The regulation on this will come into force in April.

This proposal also sparked a heated discussion among politicians.

Zalewska: I hope there will be no discipline and no platform for whistleblowers

Anna Zalewska discussed this issue during the press conference. – Teachers have just had their freedom taken away because they were told what they couldn’t do in their jobs, i.e. not giving homework even though there is no homework order, and there is a grading system that shows that this is absolutely the case. If it is possible to keep it under control, it shows how disrespectful the teaching profession is, the MEP said.

– I hope that the Minister of Education, Barbara Nowacka, will not believe that doing homework will result in disciplinary action or arrest. Or perhaps there will be a platform where whistleblowers come in, which teacher from which school assigns homework, she added.
