Orlen’s development plans. He wants to have a network of 3.5 thousand. gas station mid-year

The PKN Orlen group wants to realize 3.5 thousand gas stations by mid-2024

Thanks to acquisitions in Austria, Germany, Slovakia and Hungary, the company’s number of foreign stations increased by almost 1/3 during the year to 1,514 facilities. Orlen is currently finalizing the purchase of a package of more than 60 stations in Hungary.

‘We have created a modern group that is quickly strengthening its position in the region. This year we will already achieve our strategic goal of a fuel sales network of 3.5 thousand people. station. By leveraging Orlen’s strong position, experience with mergers and acquisitions and financial potential, we have expanded the number of our stations by almost 350 points of sale over the past twelve months, of which more than 330 are abroad. Now we are focusing on adapting all newly acquired facilities to the high standards that characterize the Orlen chain. We will also consistently equip the following stations with electric car charging infrastructure,” said Daniel Obajtek, president of the company, in the press release.

The number of Orlen stations outside Poland is growing

Orlen currently has 1,514 gas stations outside Poland – 337 more than at the end of 2022. The largest foreign market for the company is Germany, where the network includes 607 facilities operating under the Orlen and Star brands. The company is in the process of renaming its stations in the German market; by the end of February, nearly 100 points will operate under the Orlen brand. The company also plans to increase the number of stations in Germany equipped with charging infrastructure for electric cars to more than 430 over the next two years, the material shows.

The second largest foreign market is the Czech Republic, where there are 436 stations. More than 90% of these operate under the Orlen brand name. The company is also gradually installing chargers for electric cars at Czech gas stations, of which there are currently 267. In 2023, Orlen also launched two publicly available hydrogen stations: in Prague-Barrandov and Litvinov.

Thanks to the acquisition of 267 Turmöl stations in Austria, Orlen became the third largest operator in the gas station market in this country, with a share of approximately 10%. As part of the transaction, 110 electric car charging stations under the Turmstrom brand were also acquired.

Orlen takes over stations in Hungary

Orlen also has 91 stations in Slovakia, 83 stations in Hungary and 30 in Lithuania. In Hungary, the company began acquiring a further 63 facilities in early January – the final pool resulting from the agreement with Hungary’s MOL. The acquisition and rebranding process will be completed at the end of April, which will leave Orlen with more than 140 stations in Hungary and the third largest retail chain in the country. With the acquisition of the last facility on the Hungarian market, the company’s number of stations will exceed 3,500: 1,572 abroad and 1,929 in Poland. This will achieve the 2030 goal set in the strategy with regard to the development of the retail segment.

Currently, the Orlen station network includes 3,442 stations in seven countries in Central and Eastern Europe. More than half of them operate the coffee and catering concepts Stop Cafe or Star Connect (in Germany).
