To combat unwanted messages, the Federal Agency for Consumer Protection (Profeco) and the National Telecommunications Association (Anatel) have signed an agreement to prevent users from receiving “spam” on their mobile phones.
The agreement “Measures to prevent spam in mobile communications” was signed by the company’s Prosecutor General’s Office Altan Redes, Alestra Servicios Móviles, AT&T, Izzi mobile, Telcel and Movistar.
Thus, each operator, subject to the provisions of laws and regulations on this issue, will block messages fraud, collection, advertising, pornography, among the others.
Likewise, it has been decided that each operator or source aggregator will request the legal identity of any major user who wishes to send messages directly or through aggregators.
What is “spam”?
This is any type of message transmitted electronically that the final recipient does not wish to receive or continue to receive.
Thus, “spam” is any unsolicited message that usually has for the purposes of promotion, sales, collection actions, deception or try to generate interest in a product, service or issue.
“The goal is to join forces and coordinate mechanisms to prevent mobile phone service consumers from receiving these types of messages that are annoying and risky.
“And thus create a safe environment for the use of mobile phones,” Profeco said.
The signing of the agreement was attended, among others, by Lucio Rendon from Altan Redes; Mario Berganza from Telcel; Carlos Alberto Gonzalez and Liliana Olvera from Movistar; Antonio Diaz of AT&T Mexico; Wilson Edward Rojas of Alestra; Gonzalo Martinez of Izzy; and Pedro Rangel, Deputy Prosecutor for Telecommunications at Profeco.
