Not everyone can benefit from the gasoline bonus offered by the Meloni government, which is a “one-off” contribution of 77.20 euros for refueling (so you only get it once). This amount is aimed at low-income families in financial difficulties: it will be transferred to the “just for you” card, which contributes 382.50 euros towards the purchase of basic food items. In short, the gas bonus should also be taken into account in addition to what is available on the card. With your calculator in hand, you arrive at €459.70: This amount is paid via electronic payment card to each family unit that meets the requirements.
Therefore, those who benefit from the gas bonus are people who have already received (or are about to receive) the “special for you” card. These are families (including pensioners) with an ISEE income of 15 thousand euros or less. As we explain here, the “just for you” card includes an amount towards the purchase of essential groceries or season tickets for local public transport.
Initially, in the government’s opinion, the fuel bonus should have been aimed at a wider audience, with a value of 150 euros. Then, during the last budget law negotiations, it was decided to reduce the contribution fee to 77.20 euros only for card holders. The contribution is automatically transferred to the card; so you don’t need to ask any questions. Families who have it find the sum (without doing anything) in addition to the 382.50 euros already established.
Top-up of 77.20 euros for fuel purchases started on December 15 to the cards already distributed. This provision follows a priority criterion that takes into account the number of members in the family unit, the presence of children and their age. For those who have not yet done this, the deadline for activating the card (to which, as already mentioned, the gasoline bonus is transferred) has been extended to January 31, 2024: those who have not made the first payment by this date will lose the opportunity to use their contribution. In addition, card holders will need to use the full amount they can use by March 15, 2024 at the latest.
So who doesn’t get the (almost) 80 euro gas bonus? Some families were previously excluded because they did not have requirements compatible with the “just for you” card. First of all, those who receive citizenship income in 2023, those who receive the 2024 participation allowance and those who benefit from any other social inclusion or poverty support measures cannot receive a contribution. There is no petrol bonus even for families where a member receives Naspi or Dis-coll (i.e. monthly unemployment benefit), mobility allowance or redundancy pay and also has access to any other wage supplement for involuntary unemployment provided by the State.
