Most Mexicans experience severe financial stress: Condusef survey

The 2023 National Financial Health Survey (ENSAFI) shows that 50.8 percent of the Mexican population have Low or low average level of financial well-being.

The exercise is being carried out by the National Commission for the Protection of Users of Financial Services (Condusef) in collaboration with the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).

The data shows that Quintana Roo is, on average, the country with the greatest financial well-being. Warrior, last place.

36.9 percent of the population lives in high level of financial stress; 34.6 percent at moderate level and 28.5 percent at low or no level.

Study finds women suffer more from stress high:

In terms of emotions caused by financial stress, women were more likely to experience anxietysadness, disappointment and irritability compared to men.

Additionally, 34.9 percent of the population experienced some physiological effects such as Headachegastrointestinal disorders or changes in blood pressure.

In its turn, 30.7 percent suffered from psychological effects, such as problems sleeping or eating, and 10.3 percent had social or other problems, such as conflicts with family or work. 57.2 percent of the population did not experience any effects of financial stress.

How many Mexicans are in debt?

Debt is money that needs to be paid within a set period of time.

There are two types: formal and informal. The first is obtained through loans provided by financial institutions, whether banking or not. From my side, unofficial debt It is purchased through individuals, from relatives, in pawn shops and in other ways.

Of the population aged 18 years and older, 36.2 percent reported having some kind of debt.

The difference between women and men was 4.6 percentage points (34.1 and 38.7%, respectively), as can be seen in the graph:

This study shows that the majority of the population is able to borrow 10 thousand pesos without affecting their assets.

How much do Mexicans need to survive?

The survey reflected perceptions of monthly income needed to cover expenses.

The average required income at the national level was 16,421 pesos.

However, differences were observed depending on gender: women considered an average income of 15 thousand pesos to be necessary, while men considered an average of 18 thousand pesos.

In terms of geographic distribution, the three states with the highest average monthly income requirement were Mexico City (29,500 pesos), Nuevo Leon (23,500 pesos) and Coahuila (21,900 pesos).

The subjects with the lowest average requirement were Chiapas (7 thousand pesos), Tlaxcala (8 thousand pesos) and Michoacán (11 thousand 200 pesos). MAP:
