The idea of cuts to family allowances in the next budget is fanciful and without any basis. No fine words are used in a note from the Ministry of Economy and Finance to respond to the rumours in the newspaper “La Repubblica”, according to which the government led by Giorgia Meloni is working to change the single allowance for children, introduced by the Draghi executive in 2021. The measure is worth around 20 billion and affects more than six million families every year. The revision of the plan – according to the newspaper – would be included in the next budgetary manoeuvre and would be entrusted to the Minister of Family, Birth Rate and Equal Opportunities, Eugenia Roccella. The resources – based on what was reported in the rumours – would then be redistributed, concentrating them on families with many children. But the denial was categorical.
Just like that of Paolo Barelli, leader of the Forza Italia group in the Chamber, interviewed by Affaritaliani: “This is fake news, also denied by Minister Giorgetti. Only from tomorrow, with the first meeting between the leaders of the government majority, will we start to talk about the Budget Law for 2025 in a general sense and the commitments towards the European Commission. This cancellation of the single subsidy seems to be completely fake news.”
