Tourists buy pecorino and sausages from street vendor, bill 1,155 euros: ‘These were niche products’

They paid 1,155 euros for four pieces of cheese and sausage. Scam? No, at least according to the seller, who responded to the accusations by explaining that he sells “niche products”. Almost four kilos of dried meat and pecorino. At an astronomical price. The events, which took place in Porto Istana, not far from Olbia, were reported by Nuova Sardegna. It also published the receipt of the transaction made with the POS. The unfortunate incident happened to an 86-year-old blind woman and her family member who were on holiday in Sardinia.

Attracted by a street vendor located behind the beach, the duo couldn’t resist the temptation of local products. And so, after choosing the delicacies to buy, they completed the transaction. At least according to their version, they couldn’t imagine that the bill would be so high.

In Sardinia, they pay 1,155 euros to buy cheese and sausage: “Niche products”

The two tourists, who noticed the amount, complained to the financial police and reported the situation to the Buddusò police. I then tried to contact the street vendor. In the meantime, at least according to the tourists, no receipt was given. Not bad, because the vendor’s name, surname and address were clearly visible on the POS receipt. But who didn’t want to listen to reason, claiming that he was selling “niche products” to the two tourists and that he had communicated the price correctly before they bought. “I think it’s a free market, the man added, so I don’t see any problem.” Regarding the 86-year-old woman’s visual impairment, the vendor commented: “To be honest, it didn’t seem very incomprehensible to me, but they seemed smarter than me, considering that they were driving, they were on the road. They calmly went to the beach and paid using the POS.” Even though not a single euro has been returned to the two tourists so far, the authorities will now take up the case. In the meantime, other traders in the area have already distanced themselves from the retailer.
