Train strike, fire on Sunday: Frecce, Intercity and region at risk

It looks set to be a hot week for those who decide to travel by train next weekend. Several independent unions have announced a national strike of Fs Italiane Group staff from 3am on Sunday, 8 September 2024, to 2am on Monday, 9 September 2024.

As noted in the note published by FS, the protest could have repercussions on rail traffic and could lead to the complete or partial cancellation of Frecce, Intercity and Trenitalia Regional trains. The impacts in terms of cancellations and delays could occur even before the end of the strike and could continue after.

Trenitalia invites all passengers to get information before going to the station and, if possible, to reschedule their journey. Information on active connections and services is available on the Trenitalia App, the Infomobility section of the trenitalia.com website, the Fs Italiane Group’s social and web channels, the toll-free number 800 89 20 21, and at ticket offices and office assistance at train stations, self-service points and affiliated travel agencies.

Guaranteed trips

During strike days, Trenitalia provides the minimum transport services reported below, prepared following agreements with the unions deemed appropriate by the Guarantee Commission for the application of Law 146/1990. Trains departing after the start of the strike shall still arrive at their final destination if they can be reached within one hour of the start of the union agitation; after this period, trains may stop at stations prior to the final destination.
