No more empty buildings. The left wants to use them

The left has a plan for using vacant buildings in times of housing crisis.

During the left-wing convention “Apartment as right, not good” in Krakow, Włodzimierz Czarzasty announced that in the near future the left will start a discussion with local government officials about the “sensible use of vacant buildings”.

The Deputy Speaker of the Sejm noted that the goal of the left is to use vacant buildings in such a way that the solutions satisfy both apartment owners and tenants. This is a response to the crisis in the housing market, where there is a shortage of apartments and their prices are rising.

– I am announcing this without details, but I am announcing: The Left will submit a project to use two million vacant buildings in Poland, so that both the owners of apartments and those who will rent these apartments are satisfied – Czarzasty said.

‘Vacant buildings go to the market’

Poland News asked Deputy Minister of Development and Technology Tomasz Lewandowski for details. – We want vacant buildings to be put on the market. No one doubts that today several hundred thousand vacant buildings can be put on the rental market and thus prices on this market can be reduced. That is why the left wants to abuse these premises, he stressed.

Asked how to influence the owner of such a vacant building to rent it, the left-wing politician said that “we already have mechanisms and institutions that can do this.” He mentioned the social housing companies that operate within local governments. – They will provide owners with a secure rental contract, regular rent payments, renovation of the property and eviction of the tenant if there is a problem – he stressed.

– We also discussed a possible tax on vacant buildings, a local levy. For example, the capital Warsaw, which has signaled a problem in its rental market, is introducing a vacancy tax. Many people in the real estate market own these properties and do not put them on the market for speculative reasons, Deputy Minister Lewandowski concluded.
