The new increases foreseen by the law on the re-evaluation of pensions will come into force in January. Therefore, treatments are increasing again, even if the increase is quite small: less than twenty euros, so to speak, for people who receive around two thousand euros net, half of which is with a pension of around a thousand euros. But let’s go in order.
By the inter-ministerial decree dated November 15, 2024, published in the Official Gazette, the Ministry of Economy determined a “percentage change in the pension balancing calculation” of 0.8 percent as of January 1, 2025; “subject to adjustment to be made” during balancing for the following year. That is, if actual inflation is higher or lower than predicted, a recalculation will be made.
Three-band mechanism
This percentage will be different depending on your income. In 2025, the “three-level” mechanism foreseen by Law No. 388 of 2000, which envisages three bands, will come into force again.
100% for controls up to 3 times the minimum treatment;
90% for those between 4 and 5 times the minimum;
75% for higher amounts.
How much will pensions increase in 2025?
Let’s move beyond the technical details to the concrete numbers. Anyone receiving a gross pension of 1,000 euros will benefit from an increase of 8 euros gross per month, thus 104 euros per year. With a pension of 1,500 euros, the increase will be equal to 12 euros, while with a pension of 2,000 euros, the pension will reach 16 euros, and with 2,500 euros it will reach around 20. For gross checks of 4 thousand euros, it reaches 30 euros.
Minimum pension
Regarding minimum pensions, an additional increase of 2.2% is also expected from 2025, but this will have little impact on the final amount, which should rise from 614.77 euros to 616.67 euros. The mini-increase caused a lot of controversy, but it should be emphasized that if the government had not intervened, these treatments would cost just over 600 euros today.
Payment plan
In January, treatments will be provided on the first bank day, i.e. the 3rd of the month. Here is the full payment calendar for 2025.
